Merrimack women’s hockey adds exhibition against NWHL’s Boston Pride

For the first time in program history, the Merrimack College women’s ice hockey program will be playing an exhibition contest against a team from the National Women’s Hockey League, taking on the Boston Pride Saturday, September 21.

This will be the first professional team that Merrimack has played, and will kick off the program’s fifth season as a varsity program. Admission is free, with puck drop set for 6 p.m.

The NWHL currently has four teams playing exhibition matches this fall: the Minnesota Whitecaps will play the University of Minnesota, The Metro Riveters will play Long Island University, the Connecticut Whale will play UConn, and the Pride will also be playing Northeastern and Boston University.

Merrimack is coming off its best season in program history, finishing the regular season with a 16-13-7 overall record. The Warriors were seeded fifth in the Hockey East tournament with a 12-10-5 league record, its highest placement ever.

The Pride will bring many familiar faces back to Lawler Rink – the current roster has 15 former Hockey East athletes.

The Warriors plan to release its home schedule in the coming week, with the full schedule to be released at a later date.
