NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.— Merrimack women’s ice hockey’s all-time leading points scorer Mikyla Grant-Mentis announced she will continue her professional career, signing with Toronto in the National Women’s Hockey League on Monday.
The Brampton, Ontario native will return home for the newest team in the NWHL, which was announced as the league’s sixth club on April 22, 2020. She started her NWHL career for Buffalo Beauts alongside Lea-Kristine Demers, signing as a free agent on February 27. In two regular season games with the Beauts, she had two goals and an assist in two games, before adding a goal and an assist in a playoff game against Connecticut. She will compete against Dominique Kremer ’19 next season, who signed a deal with Buffalo last week.
In her final season with Merrimack, she totaled 33 points on the year, which was second most for her career as a Warrior and the most goals in a single season in her time in the blue and gold. She was Hockey East Player of the Month in November for an 11-game point scoring streak during the month, where she tallied 14 goals and 22 points for the second-most of any player in the nation during that time.
She was honored as a New England Hockey Writers Association Division I All-Star and a member of the Hockey East Second Team for her stellar senior season. Grant-Mentis ended her four years at Merrimack with 56 goals, 61 assists for 117 points in 137 games—holding the program record for points and assists, and is second all-time in goals.
