Women’s Hockey Excels on Hockey East All-Academic Team

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women’s ice hockey program had seventeen student-athletes named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team – including two Top Scholar Athletes and All-Academic All-Star Team nominees as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

Senior Lea-Kristine Demers was named for the fourth time in her career as a member of the Hockey East’s Top Scholar Athlete and a member of the Hockey East All-Academic All-Star Team after finishing her career with a 4.0 GPA. Joining her is freshman Katie Kaufman, who was also honored as a Top Scholar Athlete for a 4.0 GPA and one of four forwards on the All-Academic All-Star Team.

Demers is joined by Chloe Cook and Mikyla Grant-Mentis with honored as Distinguished Scholars for earning a 3.0 GPA in each semester during their four seasons of play. A quartet of players were recognized as three-year representatives on the squad, with Kate Bukolska, Courney Maud, Megan Fergusson and Jessica Jacques were honored.

Sophomores Gabby Jones and Nicole Martin were honored for the second time, while second years Julia MacLean and Dominika Laskova earned their first recognitions. First years Dani Castino, Mack Emery, Emma Gorski, Sam Lessick and Allison Reeb joined Kaufman as honorees.

The seventeen represent 175 women honored by Hockey East this season after they achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or better in each of their two academic periods during competition. As a group, the Warriors bested last year’s squad GPA, earning a 3.48 cumulative team GPA for the 2019-20 year.
