Women’s Ice Hockey Falls Against No. 7 Providence

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.– The Merrimack women’s ice hockey team came up short at home, falling 3-0 to the No. 7 Providence Friars on Friday afternoon, despite outshooting the Friars through the first two periods.

How It Happened

  • At the end of the first, teams were deadlocked at zero, with Merrimack holding a 7-6 shots on goal advantage.
  • Providence scored its first on the night early in the second, after a forecheck in the far corner had the puck kick out to the dot where Claire Tyo got an initial shot on goal for the Friars. Controlling the puck for a second chance was Caroline Peterson, with the puck put in by Sara Hjalmarsson.
  • Later in the middle frame, Providence won a defensive zone faceoff and started an offensive rush, with Clara Barone finishing on a shot in the high slot for her first of the year.
  • The Friars tacked on its third on an empty net attempt in the closing minutes of the game.
  • The Warriors offense peppered the Friars net, as Mack Emery, Katie Kaufman, Dominika Laskova, Gabby Jones and Courtney Maud each punched three shots on goal in the game.
