NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Two captains of the Merrimack women’s ice hockey team– Léa-Kristine Demers and Mikyla Grant-Mentis have signed professional contracts with the Buffalo Beauts of the National Women’s Hockey League.

Demers made 70 career performances, earning a .910 save percentage and 3.03 goals against while earning 16 wins for the Warriors. The Repentigny, Quebec native finished eighth in the nation in total saves with 795.

Grant-Mentis ended her four years with Merrimack with 56 goals, 61 assists for 117 points in 137 games—holding the program record for points and assists, and is second all-time in goals. The Brampton, Ontario native led the team in goals this season with 20 and 33 points, good for second in Hockey East and top ten nationally.

“Our staff is excited to see these two great players have the opportunity to continue their careers professionally as teammates in Buffalo,” Merrimack head coach Erin Hamlen said. “Both have had wonderful careers at Merrimack and deserve every opportunity to continue playing.”

Following the end of the regular season last Saturday, the duo joins the club in the midst of the playoff push in their final regular season contest against the Metropolitan Riveters on Saturday in New Jersey.

“We are very excited to welcome Mikyla and Léa-Kristine to the Beauts,” said Buffalo general manager Mandy Cronin in a league statement. “We are on a mission to bring the Isobel Cup back to Buffalo, and we believe these two highly-skilled young players can help us do that.”

The pair join Dominique Kremer and Samantha Ridgewell as former Warriors playing professional women’s hockey, as the Class of 2019 players compete for D.I.F in the SDHL in Sweden.
