NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – A visit from the University of Vermont and trip to Colonial Athletic Conference’s Drexel University, the Merrimack College women’s lacrosse team is excited to announce its 17-game Division I schedule for the 2020 season.
Merrimack is in its first of a four-year reclassification period into Division I. The Warriors are slated to play a full Northeast Conference (NEC) schedule, but will be unable to compete in postseason play for the next four season.
The Warriors closed the book on Division II by going on an unprecedented run winning three straight games away from home in the NE10 conference tournament. In the championship Merrimack picked up its first victory against Le Moyne in 10 tries and handed the Dolphins, who were 19-0 coming into the contest, their first loss since last April. The Warriors were the first team since New Haven in 2009 to win a conference title other than Le Moyne or Adelphi.
In March, the Warriors take on the Catamounts of Vermont in the first Division I women’s lacrosse game at Duane Stadium on Saturday Feb. 8 (12:00 p.m.). Warriors then come home to face Holy Cross on Tuesday, Mar. 10 (4:00 p.m.) and Umass Lowell on Tuesday, Mar. 17 (6:00 p.m.), before finishing non-conference play with a game against Harvard on Mar 23.
In conference highlights include Merrimack’s first NEC home game against Saint Francis (PA) on Friday, Mar. 27 (4:00 p.m.) a game against 2019 conference champion Wagner on Apr 17.
The Warriors will have Alumni Day on Saturday, Apr. 11 (4:00 p.m.) when they take on Long Island University on the Duane Stadium turf.
