Women’s Lacrosse’s Cacciola Earns NEC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

SOMERSET, N.J. – Merrimack College women’s lacrosse junior goalkeeper, Gabby Cacciola, was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
She turned in her best performance of the season Saturday afternoon at Central Connecticut. She earned the victory in the cage after she made 11 saves on 21 shots on goal for a .524 save percentage. Six of her stops came in the first half to help the Warriors build a big cushion over the Blue Devils.

The Wading River, N.Y. native has claimed both wins now on the campaign for Merrimack and enters Wednesday’s game at Bryant with a .404 save percentage. She’s had the hot hand as of late though, as she has a .450 save percentage in her last three appearances.

The honor marks the first of Cacciola’s career.
