Women’s Swimming Hits the Pool in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Merrimack women’s swimming team, one of the youngest teams in the entire Northeast-10, continued its winter season with eight freshmen on Sunday, taking part in a tri-meet in New Haven, Connecticut against Southern Connecticut State and Connecticut College.

How It Happened
Freshman Caroline Rogers (Westwood, Mass.) was Merrimack’s top finisher on the afternoon, finishing fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, 13 seconds off the leader.

Carly Anne Forrester (Sandwich, Mass.) finished seventh in the 1000 freestyle event and Ireland Wilson (Niantic, Conn.) finished in the same slot in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, while Erin Lydon (Waltham, Mass.) also finished seventh in the 200-yard butterfly. Rogers finished seventh in the 100-yard freestyle with Kendra Van Pelt (Burlington, Iowa) taking seventh in the 100 butterfly.

Jennifer Belanger (South Windsor, Conn.) finished just one spot from being the team’s top finisher on the day, taking fifth place in the 500 freestyle; she also finished seventh in the 200 IM.

The Warriors will be off until they swim in the Northeast-10 Championships, scheduled for Feb. 6-9 back in the same pool in New Haven, Connecticut.
