Grace Messina Named NE-10 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Following a 6-0 week that catapulted the Merrimack College women’s tennis program to a 3-0 week, senior Grace Messina (Caracas, Venezuela)was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday morning.

Messina did not lose a set during singles play, topping opponents from Franklin Pierce, New Haven and defending NE-10 champion Adelphi. She extended her career-long conference singles winning streak to 39 matches. The team captain combined with sophomore Mana Seifaei (North York, Ontario) to post an undefeated doubles record as well, competing at the first flight.

After ending last season ranked No. 48 nationwide, the three-time NE-10 Player of the Year has now won 22 of 24 singles matches overall dating back to her junior campaign. Additionally, 21 of her last 22 wins have come in straight sets.

The Warriors begin a three-match week Tuesday afternoon against Stonehill at 3 p.m.
