MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Merrimack College women’s tennis team concluded its spring campaign with a 9-0 defeat at Florida Tech on Wednesday afternoon.

How It Happened
The Warriors faced another regionally ranked opponent in their final contest in Florida, as the Panthers entered Wednesday as the eighth-ranked team in the South Region, according to the Oracle/ITA Division II Rankings.

All three doubles matches went in favor of the hosts. Junior captain Grace Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) and freshman Mana Seifaei (North York, Ontario) played the closest match, an 8-4 loss at first doubles. Sophomores Mackenzie Blair (Thomaston, Conn.) and Danielle Dunn (Middleton, Mass.) won two games at No. 2, while the freshmen pairing of Celine Mende (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Lauren Persson (Barnstable, Mass.) competed at No. 3.

First singles pitted Messina, the 38th-ranked singles player nationally according the Oracle/ITA Division II Rankings released on Wednesday, against Natasa Vukovic, the No. 50 player in the nation. Vukovic prevailed in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-3.

The remaining matchups during singles action were won by the Panthers. Persson won three games during her first set at No. 3, as the Warriors utilized five underclassmen to round out the lineup.
