Merrimack Women’s Tennis Sweeps AIC

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women’s tennis team did not relinquish a match on Saturday afternoon from North Andover High School, defeating American International, 9-0, in Northeast-10 Conference action.

How It Happened (Doubles)

  • No. 1 – Merrimack started the match with a bang, sweeping doubles play. Senior Grace Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) and sophomore Mana Seifaei (North York, Ontario) continued their roll through the Northeast-10 Conference with an 8-3 win at the first flight
  • No. 2 – Mimicking their teammates at No. 1, juniors Mackenzie Blair (Thomaston, Conn.) and Danielle Dunn (Middleton, Mass.) prevailed by an 8-3 margin at second doubles
  • No. 3 – Finishing up first, the duo of sophomore Lauren Persson (Barnstable, Mass.) and freshman Mia Briggs (York, Maine) dominated in 8-0 fashion, blanking their opposition from AIC

How It Happened (Singles)

  • No. 1 – Messina rolled to a straight-set victory at the first flight, 6-1 and 6-2, improving her conference record to 8-0 on the season. Her career NE-10 singles ledger sits at 44-0 after eight matches this season
  • No. 2 – Seifaei rallied to win her opener, 7-5, before a quicker second set that resulted in a 6-2 victory for the second-year player
  • No. 3 – For the third time this season, Persson did not lose a game at the third flight (6-0, 6-0)
  • No. 4 – Dunn lost just three games at No. 4, winning by a 6-3 margin in her opening frame followed by a 6-0 blanking in the final set
  • No. 5 – Blair only stumbled in one of 13 games against her opposition, winning by a 6-0, 6-1 final
  • No. 6 – For the third time in her last four singles appearances, Briggs did not lose a game en route to a shutout victory. She has lost just two games over her last four matches and has won her last eight sets played
