Merrimack’s Seifaei Named ITA East Region Rookie of the Year

Freshman Mana Seifaei (North York, Ontario) of the Merrimack College women’s tennis team was tabbed the East Region Rookie of the Year, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Thursday evening.

Seifaei finished her first year on campus with 26 combined victories between singles and doubles play, the third most wins on the Warriors. The Northeast-10 All-Conference Third Team selection posted a 19-5 league record, including a 6-1 mark at fourth singles. Her nine singles victories in league play tied for the second most on the Warriors.

The Ontario native began her career by winning seven of her first eight singles contests, six of which were of the straight-set variety. She ended her year tied for the team lead among freshmen with 12 singles victories. Regionally, she won 22 matches including a 12-5 doubles record.

Depsite not landing on the NE-10 All-Rookie Team, Seifaei competed well against her fellow freshmen across the conference. She triumphed over Paige Benoit of Assumption, one of six members of the all-rookie team, and defeated NE-10 Rookie of the Year Tiffany Dun in doubles action.
