NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women’s tennis team defeated the Franklin Pierce Ravens, 9-0, on Wednesday in the Warriors home opener from North Andover High School. The Navy and Gold improved to 3-0 on the year, while the Ravens dropped their first match of the year.

How It Happened
The Warriors dispersed of the Ravens for their second shutout of the season. Captains Grace Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) and Chealsey Giatrelis (Centerville, Mass.)topped their opponent at No. 1, 8-0. Sophomore Mackenzie Blair (Thomaston, Conn.) and freshman Lauren Persson (Barnstable, Mass.) won by the same exact score at No. 2. The freshmen pairing of Celine Mende (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Mana Seifaei (North York, Ontario) also won by an 8-0 score.

Messina, the reigning NE-10 Player of the Week, started off singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1. Giatrelis and Persson followed suit by blanking their opponents at No. 2-3.

Seifaei was the lone Warrior not to shut out their opponent, but won by 6-0 and 6-1 set scores. Blair improved to 3-0 at No. 5 singles with a straight-set victory. Mende, the reigning NE-10 Rookie of the Week, followed suit by winning at No. 6.
