NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Four different athletes from the Merrimack College men’s and women’s track and field teams garnered Northeast-10 Conference weekly honors, including three of four NE-10 Athlete of the Week awards going to Warriors, as announced by the league offices on Monday.

Juniors John Braga (North Reading, Mass.) and Sarah Barnett (Bridgewater, Mass.) were each named the men’s and women’s Field Athlete of the Week after their stellar performances at the Harvard Multi-Meet this weekend. Braga won the heptathlon at the meet, setting a school record with his total score of 4952. That score was also an NCAA provisional qualifier and the fourth best score in all of Division II.

Barnett had a great showing in the pentathlon, posting a fourth-place finish. She set school records in the long jump (5.44m), shot put (12.31m), and the 60m hurdles (9.24). Her total score of 3459 is also a school record, NCAA provisional qualifier, and ranks eighth in all of Division II this season.

Junior captain Carly Muscaro (Ashland, Mass.) was named the NE-10 Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 800m at the Tufts Invite with a school-record time of 2:09:69 converted. That time also was good enough to be an NCAA Automatic Qualifier and ranks as the fastest time in all of Division II this season, as well as fourth in Division I.

Freshman Michaela Pernell (Naugatuck, Conn.) earned her second NE-10 Track Rookie of the Week honor with her continued success in the 60m, posting a second-place finish in the event at the Tufts Invite with a time of 7.77. That time ranks second on the school record board, is an NEICAAA qualifier and is third-fastest time in the event this season.

The Warriors look to continue their success when they travel up to Brunswick, Maine for the Bowdoin Invitational this Saturday.
