Junior captain Carly Muscaro(Ashland, Mass.) earned her second straight Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honor, while freshman Jacob Robinson (Riverhead, N.Y.) garnered his first conference honor in NE-10 Men’s Track Rookie of the Week after their performances for the Merrimack College men’s and women’s track and field teams this past weekend, as announced by the league offices Monday.
Muscaro earns her second consecutive Track Athlete of the Week honor and third of the season after setting a New England Intercollegiate record for the second straight weekend. After doing so in the 400m last weekend, Muscaro broke the 31-year old New England Intercollegiate record in the 500m at the Scarlet and White Invitational at Boston University this past weekend, running a time of 1:09.35 and breaking the record by more than a second and a half. Her time moves her into the all-time USA #7 performer and the #9 performance all-time at 500 meters.
Robinson takes home his first weekly conference honor of his rookie campaign after his performances in the 200m at the Scarlet and White Invitational. The Riverhead, N.Y. native posted a 15th-place finish out of the field of 74, with many Division I runners, with a time of 22.19. His time in the event ranks second on the school record board and is tied for the third-fastest time in the NE-10 in the event this season. Robinson was also part of the men’s 4x400m relay team that ran a school-record time of 3:24.24, nabbing a ninth place finish at the meet.
Muscaro, Robinson and the rest of the Warriors return to action in Boston next weekend for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, with some athletes also taking part in the Gordon Kelly Invitational in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
