Borek, Jefferies finalists for Hockey East awards
Hockey East announced on Monday that Alex Jefferies is a finalist for the league’s Player of the Year award, while Merrimack head coach Scott Borek is a finalist for the league’s Coach of the Year award.
Jefferies, named a First Team All-Star last week, is tied for second with BU’s Matt Brown in the league’s scoring race with 30 points (13 goals, 17 assists) in 24 games.
Jefferies is a finalist alongside BU defenseman Lane Hutson and Northeastern goaltender Devon Levi.
Borek is a finalist for the Coach of the Year award alongside BU’s Jay Pandolfo and Maine’s Ben Barr.
Merrimack was picked to finish No. 8 in the Hockey East preseason poll, but the Warriors finished No. 2 in the league standings. Pandolfo guided BU to a first-place finish after the Terriers were picked to finish No. 2, and Barr helped Maine climb from No. 11 in the preseason to No. 6 in the final standings.
