Butler runs away from Merrimack in the second half
Merrimack only trailed by seven points at halftime, but Butler outscored the Warriors by 33 points in the second half en route to a 78-39 win at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The Bulldogs went on a 28-2 run to begin the second half.
Adam Clark led the way for the Warriors (1-4) with eight points and four assists. Matt Becht and David Murray had six points. Sean Trumper had five rebounds, and Becht had two steals.
Pierre Brooks scored 23 points for Butler. Andre Screen scored 12 points while finishing 5 of 6 from the floor and added nine rebounds. Patrick McCaffery had 11 points and shot 3 of 8 from the field, including 2 for 5 from 3-point range, and went 3 for 4 from the line.
The Warriors will stay on the road but head back to the Merrimack Valley to take on UMass Lowell on Monday night.
