By the Numbers: Merrimack vs. Marist
The Merrimack men’s basketball team will close out the regular season on Thursday night in a road game at Marist.
The Warriors fell to the Red Foxes, 61-60, on Feb. 16 at home. This will be Merrimack’s first-ever trip to Marist.
Merrimack cannot finish in first place due to tie-breakers, but the Warriors have a chance to finish second in the MAAC standings, which would secure a first-round bye in next week’s MAAC tournament.
How the Warriors can finish second in the MAAC:
Merrimack beats Marist on Thursday
Marist loses to Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday
That would create a final standings that would read (at the top):
Quinnipiac (anywhere from 14-16 wins and 4-6 losses)
Merrimack (14-6)
Marist (13-7)
Mount St. Mary’s (13-7 or 12-8)
A win on Thursday guarantees that the Warriors will finish ahead of Mount St. Mary’s (they lead by 1 game in the loss column).
There is a chance the Warriors could finish fourth in the MAAC with a loss on Thursday, but they cannot finish any lower than fourth.
