Carolina draft pick Michael Emerson commits to Merrimack out of the transfer portal
Merrimack bolstered its forward group on Thursday with a commitment from Michael Emerson out of the transfer portal.
Emerson, 20, appeared in six games during the first half of last season at North Dakota but opted to return to the USHL and the Chicago Steel. Over the last two seasons in Chicago, Emerson had 84 points (39g-45a) in 87 games.
The New York native was drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes last June.
Once he returned in January, Emerson played center for the Steel, but he has also played wing throughout his career. He originally committed to UMass. Last season, when he re-opened his recruitment, he visited North Dakota, Boston University, Northeastern, Quinnipiac, and UConn.
