Clark scores 30 points to lead Merrimack past St. Francis (PA) 74-55
Budd Clark scored a career-high 30 points as Merrimack beat St. Francis (PA) 74-55 on Saturday.
In what I could find with available records online, Clark is the first Merrimack freshman to score 30 points in a game. Three former Warriors came close.
Current Merrimack assistant coach Juvaris Hayes scored 28 points against Franklin Pierce on Dec. 6, 2016. Darren Duncan (vs. UMass Lowell on Dec. 5, 2006) and Gelvis Solano (vs. St. A’s on Nov. 28, 2012) matched that number.
Clark is definitely the first Warrior freshman to score 30 points in the D-I era.
Clark had four steals for the Warriors (12-10, 6-2 NEC), who won their third game in a row. Jordan Derkack added 15 points while going 4 of 13 from the floor, including 0 for 3 from 3-point range, and 7 for 11 from the line, and they also had 10 rebounds. Elliott Black shot 5 of 6 from the field to finish with 10 points.
Merrimack went to the line 29 times and knocked down 22 free throws. Clark went a perfect six-for-six.
The Red Flash (7-14, 2-6) were led by Eli Wilborn, who posted 19 points, 16 rebounds, two steals and three blocks. Saint Francis (PA) also got 10 points and six rebounds from Bobby Rosenberger III. In addition, Carlos Lopez Jr. had seven points and seven assists.
NOTES: Sophomore forward Elliott Black had a career-high 10 points off the bench. He also grabbed six rebounds, which was good enough for second best for Merrimack. … The Warriors scored 19 points off of 15 Red Flash turnovers.
NEXT: The Warriors have the week off and will be back at home next Saturday (Feb. 3) to take on Central Connecticut. The Warriors will be looking to redeem themselves after CCSU handed them a 75-70 loss two weeks ago.
