Forward Cruz Pavao committed to Merrimack on Monday.
The Calgary native is set to return to the WHL this season, where he’ll play for the Tri-City Americans.
Pavao recorded 43 points for Tri-City last season. He went undrafted in the 2026 NHL Draft but remains eligible for the 2027 draft. Pavao was one of the younger players in last year’s draft pool and didn’t turn 18 until three weeks ago.
From the Elite Prospects draft guide:
“Pavao’s skills are NHL-calibre, nearly across the board. Whether he’s shooting off-the-pass or in-flight, the puck explodes off his stick. He creates space for his shot with inside cuts, crossover attacks, and, increasingly, give-and-gos.”
Analysis: This could be a breakout season for Pavao.
