Derkack's career high leads Merrimack in win over Worcester State
Every Merrimack starter scored in double figures as the Warriors cruised past Worcester State 93-72 Thursday night at Hammel Court.
Jordan Derkack followed up his strong opening-night effort against Vermont with a career-high 26 points. The 6-5 sophomore forward also had seven rebounds and five steals. Derkack shot 10 for 14 from the field.
Freshman Budd Clark had 11 points with six steals, which led the team. Devon Savage had a double-double, scoring 10 points and adding 11 rebounds. Transfer Samba Diallo scored 11 points, and sophomore Bryan Etumnu scored 10 points.
The Warriors overcame another slow start. The Lancers had an 11-10 lead at the 12:53 mark of the first half, and the teams traded small leads until late in the first half when the Warriors went on an 11-0 run to open up a 13-point lead with just over a minute to play.
Sam Dion hit a 3-pointer for the Lancers to open the second half, but the Warriors then went on another 10-0 run, giving them a 17-point cushion.
The Warriors led by as many as 24 points.
Merrimack will travel to Maine on Sunday to take on the Black Bears. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
