Durocher Joins Merrimack Coaching Staff
Merrimack head coach Scott Borek has officially added Ryan Durocher to his staff, filling the vacancy left by Jimmy Mullin, who departed earlier this offseason to take over as associate head coach of the Fargo Force (USHL).
“I’m thrilled to be joining Merrimack College as an assistant coach,” Durocher said. “It’s a privilege to be part of a program with a tradition of excellence and a long list of professional players who developed as Warriors. I want to thank Scott Borek for the opportunity to return to New England and coach in Hockey East. I look forward to contributing to Merrimack’s continued success.”
Durocher brings a well-traveled resume to North Andover. A SUNY-Cortland alum, he played four seasons there and was teammates with current Merrimack associate head coach Dan Jewell from 2008-11. His coaching career began at Southern New Hampshire before a brief stop in junior hockey with the EHL. He landed his first Division I gig at St. Lawrence, followed by stints in the USHL (Sioux City) and the AHL (Binghamton Devils).
In 2020, Durocher joined Robert Morris as an assistant. When the program was cut—and later revived—he moved on to Sacred Heart and then Colorado College, before returning to Robert Morris in 2022.
“We’re very excited to add Ryan to our staff,” Borek said. “He brings a strong recruiting background and a proven ability to help players improve both on and off the ice.”
Robert Morris head coach Derek Schooley took to social media to thank Durocher and fellow assistant Matt Nicholson—who left for Bowling Green—for their work.
“I’ve been fortunate to work with some truly fantastic assistant coaches throughout the years,” Schooley posted. “Matt Nicholson and Ryan Durocher are among the best. Thank you for your invaluable contributions to Colonial Hockey. Best of luck in your next chapter!”
