Game 1: Merrimack at Arizona State lineups and notes for season opener
The journey begins.
Merrimack begins the 2023-24 season tonight in Tempe, Arizona. Tonight will be the Warriors' first game at Arizona State. The programs only met once, back in 2016, and the Warriors won that game 10-0. However, there were extenuating circumstances that afternoon. ASU was in its first year as a D-I program, and they were on the back end of three games in three nights, having played at UMass Lowell the previous two evenings.
Merrimack (0-0-0)
Arizona State (0-0-0)
Puck Drop: 10 p.m. ET
TV/Stream: Arizona State Live Stream
Officials: Tom Dellafranco (R), Stan Szczuryk (R), Mike Sarter (L), Chris Zorza (L)
Notes: The Sun Devils play at Mullett Arena, which is on campus. The NHL’s Arizona Coyotes began playing their games there last season when they couldn’t reach an agreement with the City of Glendale on a new arena. … Merrimack head coach Scott Borek is with the team this weekend. As we wrote last week, he’s recovering from offseason surgery and likely won’t be on the bench, but he will be watching (and communicating) from the press box. … Alex Jefferies, Mike Brown, Trevor Griebel, and Nikita Borodayenko are all injured tonight. … Borek said he intends for Hugo Ollas and Zachary Borgiel to split the starting duties in the series.
