Hemming's last-minute goal snaps Merrimack's six-game unbeaten streak
Boston College 4, Merrimack 2
Oscar Hemming broke a 2–2 tie with 36 seconds remaining Saturday night at Conte Forum, snapping the Warriors’ six-game unbeaten streak.
Merrimack led 1–0 and 2–1, but the Eagles answered each time. Aram Minnetian tied the game after Justin Gill opened the scoring for the Warriors, and James Hagens pulled Boston College even again after Nick Pierre restored Merrimack’s lead.
It was a measured response from the Eagles after Merrimack took the series opener Friday night. Boston College finished with a 39–21 advantage in shots, a margin that widened in the second period when the Eagles had another 5-on-3 opportunity — their second of the weekend — along with an additional late power play.
Max Lundgren was once again a stabilizing presence, turning aside 35 shots, including five saves while shorthanded.
Despite being the only period in which they didn’t score, the third period was arguably Merrimack’s best in terms of chance generation. The Warriors managed just 10 shots combined over the first two periods but outshot BC 11–9 in the third. Hemming’s winner — off a rebound — was his first goal of the season after the likely first-round pick joined the Eagles at the semester break.
Where things stand …
The Warriors finished the weekend tied for sixth with Northeastern, a position that would make Merrimack the top-seeded team in the opening round of the Hockey East playoffs.
