The man behind the Oklahoma State men’s club hockey team is advocating for the university to make the jump to Division I men’s hockey. Mike Grinnell of Barstool Sports’ Spittin’ Chiclets and Game Notes podcasts first mentioned the possibility on an episode of Game Notes earlier this week.

The driving force behind those aspirations is Michael Mann. According to his LinkedIn page, Mann has served as chairman of the board of the Oklahoma State club hockey team since 2022. He is also the founder of Anchor Capital, a Dallas-based investment firm.

“What OSU hockey has done in recent years is very impressive, but it’s premature to say that Oklahoma State will be adding ice hockey as a varsity sport,” said Gavin Lang, Oklahoma State’s associate athletic director for communications.
