— Providence announced Tuesday that an anonymous donor will match men’s ice hockey revenue-share contributions at a staggering 10-to-1 ratio, up to a total of $3 million through Dec. 31, 2025.
If the initiative reaches its ceiling, it will result in a $3.3 million boost to the Friars’ revenue-share budget — $300,000 in direct donations, supplemented by the $3 million match.
“I am deeply grateful to one of our loyal Friar Family members for launching this transformative matching gift challenge,” Athletic Director Steve Napolillo said. “As we compete in the best conference, Hockey East, I am grateful for the belief in Coach Leaman, our Men’s Ice Hockey Program and Providence College Athletics. I hope all Friar fans will consider making a gift to help unlock this men’s ice hockey revenue share challenge.”
Not to be outdone, Boston College unveiled a $50 million match campaign of its own. The initiative will match all donations on a 1-to-1 basis for the next five to seven years. The school said the funds will be directed toward endowment gifts supporting scholarships and operational expenses. BC also announced that, effective immediately, it will fund its athletic program at the maximum level allowed under the revenue-share model. The announcement came in a letter from the department following the conclusion of the football season.
