Luke Weilandt leaves Merrimack, signs with pro team in Germany
Merrimack junior forward Luke Weilandt has left the program and signed a professional contract with Deggendorfer SC in Germany.
Weilandt was in his junior season but had already graduated with his undergraduate degree. He appeared in eight games for the Warriors this season and hasn’t been in the lineup since Dec. 6 against UConn.
Weilandt finishes his NCAA career with 66 games played and 11 points (4g, 7a).
Originally from Illinois, Weilandt’s family also has roots in Germany, and he’s listed as a dual Germany/U.S. citizen.
Analysis: Best of luck to Weilandt in his pro career. I’m jealous of the players who get to experience hockey overseas — not only playing the game, but also getting immersed in different cultures across the pond.
