Merrimack Adds Another High-End Scoring Threat from the QMJHL
For the second time this weekend, Merrimack has dipped into the QMJHL pipeline to secure a highly regarded forward.
On the heels of Alex Mercier’s announcement, the Warriors landed a commitment late Saturday from 4.0-star forward Mavrick Lachance, one of the league’s top young scorers.
A 2006-born winger, Lachance has spent the last two seasons with the Sherbrooke Phoenix, where his offensive production jumped off the page. Last year, he posted 69 points (39 goals, 30 assists) in 61 games, including the playoffs. He’s also set to attend Boston Bruins rookie camp in the coming weeks — an opportunity that underscores his rising stock.
In 2023-24, Lachance put up 49 points (27 goals, 22 assists) in 67 games, leading all QMJHL rookies in goals scored that season.
Scouting Report (via Neutral Zone):
"Mavrick is a highly skilled forward with a strong offensive presence and the ability to make plays at high speed. His hands are a standout attribute, allowing him to execute quick, deceptive moves in tight spaces. His finishing ability is evident, and he thrives when given time and space to operate.
"Overall, Mavrick is a dynamic forward with great hands, strong skating, and a clutch scoring ability. While his defensive game and discipline need some refinement, his offensive skill set makes him a dangerous player, particularly in high-pressure situations. With continued development, he has the potential to be a game-changing presence."
Like most young scorers, his defensive game needs some refining, but the upside is considerable. With continued development, Lachance projects as a player who can tilt games on his own.
Lachance projects as part of Merrimack’s 2026 recruiting class. TMR will release full projections on the 2026 group later this season. For now, recruits are listed by birth year in our tracker, which can be viewed at the link below.
