Merrimack can't find the end zone against Robert Morris
One week after Merrimack posted its biggest offensive output of the season, the Warriors posted their fewest points of the year.
Robert Morris beat Merrimack 6-0 on Saturday afternoon in a tight, defensive battle at RMU’s Walton Stadium.
The Warriors and Colonials combined for 631 yards of total offense, but the only points came on Anthony Chiccitt’s 82-yard touchdown pass to Shawn Charles in the third quarter.
Merrimack’s special teams continued to come up big. Garry Rosemond Jr. blocked the extra-point attempt, which set up a fourth-quarter drive where the Warriors could have taken a late lead.
The Warriors took over on their 12-yard line with 2:43 left on the clock. Ayden Pereira () began the drive with a 27-yard pass to Seth Sweitzer. Jermaine Corbett ran for one yard on the next play, but Pereira couldn’t find Jalen McDonald on the second down. On third-and-9, Corbett took a pass from Pereira but lost eight yards when he was swarmed in the backfield.
Facing fourth-and-17, Pereira combined with Sweitzer for a 23-yard pickup after a hook-and-lateral to give the Warriors a first down with 1:07 left on the RMU 39.
But the drive stalled after a sack and a series of incomplete passes. The Colonials ran out the clock after the turnover on downs to end the game.
Pereira finished the day 9 for 17 for 117 yards, and he was sacked three times. Corbett led all received with 57 yards on four catches. Sweitzer had 32 yards on two catches. Pereira targeted Jalen McDonald five times.
Pereira ran for 67 yards on 17 carries. Corbett gained 50 yards on 11 carries. Brendon Wyatt saw significant time for the second game in a row, rushing for 42 yards on eight carries.
Merrimack’s defense was led by DJ Frazier, who had 10 tackles (3 TFL). Rosemond Jr. had six tackles. Merrimack couldn’t sack Chiccitt, but Nicholas Lenon and Jason Compoh had QB hurries. Kendal Sims had the only interception of the game.
The Warriors are off next week. They’ll host Sacred Heart in the Yankee Conference championship on Nov. 16 at noon.
