Merrimack fills out its D corps with addition of Josef Mysak
Merrimack rounded out its 2024-25 D-corps with the addition of 6-foot-3 blueliner Josef Mysak out of the transfer portal.
Mysak played four seasons at Niagara. In 37 games last season, he had 12 points (2g, 10a) and was one of the top minute-eaters on the team (23:04 TOI per game).
Mysak was one of the best defensive defensemen in the portal. He was 89th percentile across all of NCAA hockey in hits, 94th percentile in puck battles, and 92nd percentile in takeaways.
Originally from Litvinov, Czechia, he played in his native country through 2017 when he moved to the U.S. and played for the Austin Bruins (NAHL). He was an alternate captain for the Bruins in 2019-20.
Mysak arrives at Merrimack with 125 games of NCAA experience, and he has 43 points (9g-34a). Last summer, he was invited to development camp with the Florida Panthers.
His younger brother, Jan Mysak, was drafted in the second round by the Montreal Canadiens and is currently playing for the Anaheim Ducks AHL affiliate in San Diego.
