HAMDEN, Conn. — For much of last season, Scott Borek used his team’s late-October win over Quinnipiac as a blueprint for how the Warriors could be successful.
That night, Merrimack consistently got pucks behind Quinnipiac’s defense. The Warriors forced the Bobcats to play all 200 feet of the Lawler Arena ice and came away with an impressive win over a team considered one of the best in the country.
In Saturday night’s season-opening loss to the Bobcats — this time on the road — Quinnipiac flipped the script and made Merrimack pay with a similar formula.
The Bobcats, who once again look like one of the nation’s best teams, beat the Warriors 6-3. The win came on the heels of Quinnipiac’s 10-2 victory over New Hampshire on Friday night.
