The Warriors added to their future defensive corps Friday with a commitment from offensive defenseman Adam Fortier-Gendron of the Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL).
Fortier-Gendron was a four-year teammate in Moncton with Merrimack freshman Alex Mercier. Last season, he recorded 38 points (6-32-38) in 64 games from the back end.
Scouting reports from Neutral Zone and the Elite Prospects draft guide highlighted his ability to jump into the play offensively, join the rush and quarterback the power play. He also uses deception effectively at the point to create shooting and passing lanes.
That lines up with his analytics profile (see below for subscribers), where he ranked as one of the top transition defensemen in the QMJHL last season, finishing in the 94th percentile.
He’s also been heralded for his play in his own end as well. Fortier-Gendron was also a finalist for the Kevin Lowe Trophy, which is awarded to the QMJHL’s top defensive defenseman. He led the league with a remarkable plus-64 rating.
