Merrimack receives commitment from 3-star guard Kevair Kennedy
Merrimack’s future backcourt was bolstered by the commitment of 3-star guard Kevair Kennedy on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-2 floor general was First Team All-PCL last season as a junior. VerbalCommits and 247Sports rate Kennedy as a 3-star guard, and he’ll be a four-year starter at Father Judge High School.
Last season, Kennedy averaged 17.3 points, 6.0 assists, and 6.5 rebounds.
According to a story on CityofBasketballlove.com, Merrimack was the first team to offer Kennedy a scholarship, but other offers rolled in not long after. The Warriors were up against San Diego, Wagner, Fairleigh Dickinson, Colgate, St. Peter’s, and Albany, according to reports.
“I was just thinking that when it comes it’s the perfect time,” Kennedy said. “It’s gonna come at the right time, and it came at the right time.”
Kennedy comes from the same league as Merrimack sophomore point guard Budd Clark.
From CityofBasketballLove.com (from 2023):
“An athletic, speedy point guard, Kennedy is an excellent north-south navigator, getting through traffic with good wiggle, and he can handle well going left or right. He's starting to fill out his frame, which makes him an even more effective on-ball defender, using quick feet and hands to force a number of steals and deflections. He's got a number of ways to score, including a floater and pull-up jumper, and he's a plus finisher as well. Clearly going to be a scholarship-level guard, and trending towards a surefire Division I recruit.”
