Merrimack set to name TCU's Joe Foley as next athletic director
Foley was previously at Penn State, Maryland, and Boston College
Merrimack is set to hire Joe Foley as its next athletic director.
An official announcement is expected next week, but college officials confirmed Foley’s hiring. Foley has experience in several Power 4 conferences, including the Big 12, Big 10, and ACC.
Foley has been a senior associate AD and assistant vice chancellor at TCU (Texas Christian University) since 2023. Before TCU, he spent seven years at Penn State as a senior associate AD for advancement. He was deputy AD at Maryland in charge of development from 2015-16 and he spent 2010-14 at Boston College as the director of athletics major giving.
At TCU, Foley is part of the athletics executive team and has oversight on the TCU Frog Club.
From the TCU website:
He also works closely with all aspects of external relations in athletics and the Flying T Club, TCU's NIL collective. The Frog Club is responsible for annual, major and principal gift fundraising, the sales and service of all premium seating at home games, fundraising for capital projects, alumni engagement and the Block T Association.
At Penn State, he led all fundraising efforts.
Foley is a native of Massachusetts who was a track and field athlete at Northeastern. He also has an MBA and a Master of Sports Administration from Ohio University.
Hi Mike,
Wanted to get your thoughts on this. Is this as big and high profile of a hire as it seems to be?
He seems to have a ton of fundraising background, which I'm sure is huge.
Also, the colleges Instagram announcement of the hire makes mention that he will be involved in "building the best facilities". Wondering if there are any rumblings of any more new construction projects on campus (fitness center, athletic fields, tennis courts, etc.)?
