Merrimack will play Boston College in Hockey East Quarterfinals

Merrimack will host Boston College in a single-elimination quarterfinal game on Saturday night at Lawler Arena.

Earlier Wednesday, the Eagles beat UMass 5-2 in the opening round of the league tournament (Merrimack had a bye). No. 11 Vermont beat No. 6 Maine, and No. 7 Providence beat No. 10 New Hampshire in overtime.

The quarterfinal matchups look like this:

(1) Boston University vs. (11) Vermont

(2) Merrimack vs. (8) Boston College

(3) Northeastern vs. (7) Providence

(4) Connecticut vs. (5) UMass Lowell

The winners of Saturday’s games will move on to the Hockey East semifinals on March 17 at TD Garden in Boston.

Merrimack vs. BC will start at 7:30 on Saturday.

The Warriors swept the Eagles in the regular season (3-1, 5-2) but that series was back in October.
