Merrimack will unveil new blue jerseys this weekend

The Merrimack men’s and women’s hockey programs will debut new blue away sweaters this weekend, and fans may see them as early as tonight when the Warriors host UConn at Lawler Arena.

The updated look effectively replaces the bright yellow jerseys unveiled earlier this season. The new design draws inspiration from the mid-2000s aesthetic, offering a more traditional presentation. Merrimack teased the reveal earlier today with a promotional video posted on its Instagram page (linked above).

I’m a big proponent of these blues. The layout is clean and timeless. I wasn’t a fan of the bright yellow set, but these strike all the right notes.

That said, there’s still room for improvement across the Warriors’ overall uniform portfolio.

Having been connected to the program in one capacity or another since 2002, Merrimack has never had a matching uniform template for both home and away sets. The styles have always varied, which I’ve never understood.

My next advocacy: Adopt this design as the blueprint for a home jersey. A white version accented with navy lettering, navy piping, and gold trim would be a home-run concept. A complementary gold edition could serve as a third jersey.

The shield logo is well-placed on the shoulder, where it belongs, rather than front and center.

For someone who considers himself a jersey and uniform aficionado, the yellow sweaters missed the mark. These new blue jerseys, however, are just about perfect. Well done.
