Merrimack's losing streak reaches seven games after Friday's 7-1 loss at BU
Ed. Note — I am traveling this weekend and did not cover Friday’s games live. Postgame quotes from Merrimack coach Scott Borek were provided.
Merrimack's losing streak reached seven games on Friday night after the Warriors were blitzed by Boston University 7-1 at Agganis Arena.
This streak is Merrimack's longest losing streak since January 2016.
The Warriors have been dealing with a run of injuries all season. Some good news on Friday: Alex Jefferies and Chase Stevenson were back in the lineup.
The bad news? The Warriors lost Christian Felton for the rest of the season, and Zach Bookman was also out of the lineup. Merrimack only had five healthy defensemen eligible to play, and they all did.
"We had to figure out a way to win the hockey game," Merrimack coach Borek said of his unconventional lineup, which included 14 forwards and five defensemen. "Everyone is dealing with different circumstances. We just need to deal [with the injuries] better."
The Warriors only trailed 1-0 at the end of the first period, but the Terriers exploded for five goals in the second period and led 6-1.
"I liked our details a lot in the first period," Borek said. "We were very good without the puck. They scored a goal late, and that was disappointing.
"We just can't give them chances the way we were. It was too bad. I loved our details in the first period and they got away from us in the second period, clearly, and that's when the game turned."
Merrimack will be home Saturday night to take on New Hampshire at Lawler Arena.
