NHL prospect Simon-Xavier Cyr commits to Merrimack
Cyr is a 2008-born center who was recently moved to the top line in Gatineau
NHL prospect Simon-Xavier Cyr committed to Merrimack over the weekend, giving the Warriors another notable addition to their future pipeline.
A 2008-born forward, Cyr currently serves as the No. 1 center for the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL, a role he has grown into as the season has progressed. His responsibilities have increased noticeably of late, with the Olympiques leaning on him more heavily down the middle. Through 57 games, Cyr has produced 20 points (9 goals, 11 assists).
Cyr was ranked No. 186 among North American forwards by NHL Central Scouting ahead of this summer’s NHL Draft.
Neutral Zone rates him as the top recruit in the pipeline, awarding him a 4.25-star rating. NZ also slots him as the No. 22 2008-born player in the league. Cyr was selected by Gatineau in the first round of the 2024 QMJHL Draft.
Neutral Zone scouts point to a high ceiling for Cyr as a two-way center. They noted his effectiveness on faceoffs and his willingness to shoot the puck with confidence, particularly for a rookie at this level. As one scout put it, he has “a ton of tools in his tool bag” and now needs to find greater consistency as his game continues to mature.
