Postgame: Long Island 5, Merrimack 2
NORTH ANDOVER — Brett Rylance scored a power-play goal at the 11:44 mark of the third period to put Long Island ahead for good, as the Sharks skated to a 5–2 win over Merrimack on Saturday night at Lawler Arena. Long Island added a pair of empty-netters late to seal the victory.
Discipline proved costly for the Warriors, who took three penalties in the third period — the final one leading to Rylance’s go-ahead marker.
Dylan Kinch and Anthony Lucarelli staked the Sharks to a 2–0 lead early, but Merrimack clawed back with two goals in just 1:40 midway through the second period. Parker Lalonde and Jack Richard provided the offense to even the score at 2–2.
Kinch and Rylance each struck again into an empty net to put the game out of reach.
Despite the loss, Merrimack held a 48–37 edge in shots on goal, but Long Island goaltender Daniel Duris was stellar, turning aside 46 shots to earn the win.
