Postgame: Providence 4, Merrimack 2
PROVIDENCE — Three third-period goals by the Providence Friars wiped out what had been a one-goal Merrimack lead Friday night at Schneider Arena. Providence pulled away for a 4–2 win behind late strikes from Roger McQueen and Logan Sawyer.
Merrimack’s offense came from Justin Gill and Nick Pierre, while Max Lundgren turned aside 33 shots. Gill (1 goal, 1 assist) and Trevor Hoskin (2 assists) posted multi-point efforts for the Warriors.
Highlights
Justin Gill gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead on the power play in the first period.
Just three seconds after the Warriors were called for a faceoff violation, Tanner Adams tied the game at 1-1 on the power play.
Nick Pierre gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead early in the third period.
Roger McQueen’s first NCAA goal tied the game a few minutes later.
Late in the third, Logan Sawyer scored the game-winning goal.
