Pregame: Daneault returns to the lineup for Merrimack at Vermont
The Warriors will be without Justin Gill and Hunter Mayo
The Warriors return to action tonight at Gutterson Fieldhouse, where they’ll face Vermont in their first game back from the break.
Merrimack will be short-handed up front, however. Justin Gill is out with an undisclosed injury, and the Warriors remain without defenseman Hunter Mayo, who attempted to play through an injury earlier this season but hasn’t appeared since Dec. 5 against Connecticut.
There is some positive news on the lineup front. Ty Daneault is expected to dress for the first time since Nov. 15, when he was injured against Providence. Goaltender Nils Wallstrom is also back in uniform and will serve as one of the backups to starter Max Lundgren.
Vermont, which already ranks among the lowest-scoring teams in college hockey, will be missing several key contributors. The Catamounts will be without leading scorer Collin Kessler (0g, 8a), second-leading scorer Caeden Herrington (1g, 4a), and veteran Max Strand (2g, 1a).
Strand is one of just five players on the roster with more than one goal this season.
The Catamounts also announced the addition of goaltender Cullen DeYoung earlier today. He’s listed on the lineup chart alongside Axel Mangbo. Vermont lists its goaltenders numerically, so the starter won’t be known until warmups.
