Pregame: Merrimack looks to avoid sweep against Providence
NORTH ANDOVER — The Warriors return to Lawler Arena tonight looking to avoid a weekend sweep at the hands of Providence.
The Friars wiped out a 2-1 Merrimack lead on Friday and skated away with a 4-2 win, powered by third-period goals from Roger McQueen and Logan Sawyer. McQueen sealed it with an empty-netter in the dying seconds.
Max Lundgren, who was excellent between the pipes last night, will make his 10th consecutive start to open the season. Head coach Scott Borek did make several lineup tweaks up front. Luke Weilandt and Ryan O’Connell draw back into the lineup and will skate alongside Mark Hillier, who shifts to center. O’Connell and Weilandt replace Daniel Astapovich and Benny Yurchuk.
On the back end, the personnel remains unchanged, but the Warriors have shuffled the pairings. Filip Nordberg will be partnered with Ethan Beyer, while Seamus Powell and Hunter Mayo form the second pair. Cam Kungle slots in next to Austin Oravetz, and Nathan King once again dresses as the seventh defenseman.
