Pregame: Merrimack opens the regular season against Stonehill
NORTH ANDOVER — Merrimack men's hockey officially opens the 2024-25 season today with a matinee against Stonehill.
Merrimack senior student manager Spencer Marquis was added to the roster yesterday and will start in goal for the Warriors today. Nils Wallstrom is out with an injury, and Max Lundgren and Ryan Keyes are out today as well. Lundgren has to serve a two-game suspension for playing a pro game in Sweden before he arrived at Merrimack.
The Warriors are fresh off yesterday's 3-2 exhibition win over Sacred Heart. Ty Daneault scored first for the Warriors, and newcomers Antonio Venuto and Nick Pierre scored in the second and third periods.
Stonehill lost at UNH in an exhibition game yesterday, 4-1. Conor Ronayne scored for the Skyhawks.
Stonehill has two former Warriors on its roster. Devlin O'Brien and Brady Hunter are expected to play for the Skyhawks today.
Stonehill went 1-31-0 last season. The Skyhawks beat Lindenwood in February for their first D-I win. Merrimack beat Stonehill 3-2 on New Year's Eve last season.
