Preview: Warriors hope to rebound in home opener against Lowell
Merrimack men’s hockey returns to Lawler Arena on Friday night for its home opener against UMass Lowell — a quick rematch of last week’s season opener, when the River Hawks skated away with a 4–0 win at the Tsongas Center.
“We’ve had a good week of practice,” said Merrimack head coach Scott Borek. “We were humbled last Friday, but we came back, got to work, and I feel good about how we responded this week.”
Borek said the Warriors spent significant time addressing their struggles against Lowell’s forecheck.
“We didn’t handle the breakout well or their pressure well,” he said. “When I watched the game back on video, I thought we were on our heels early, but we eventually leveled the ice. They still carried the play, but for stretches — especially in the second period — we had chances. For about 15 minutes, we played our game and weren’t giving up much.
“The shorthanded goal ended it. I was disappointed in our reaction to that moment, but it was a learning experience.”
