Seamus Powell named 2025 TMR Men's Hockey MVP
Sophomore defenseman Seamus Powell has been named the 2025 TMR Men’s Hockey Most Valuable Player.
Powell led the Warriors in scoring with 21 points (5g-16a) in 35 games. Powell led all Warriors in time on ice, averaging 21:31 per game.
Analytically, Powell was in the 90th percentile among all college defensemen in offensive categories, and he was in the 92nd percentile in defensive categories. Overall, Powell’s analytics ranked him better than 91 percent of all NCAA defensemen. According to CHN’s new CHIP stat (an all-in-one metric similar to WAR in baseball), Powell was a Top 50 player in college hockey (across all positions) this season.
Powell becomes the first defenseman to win the TMR MVP Award in the history of the award, which dates back to 2007. He’s the first underclassman to win the award since Alex Jefferies won it as a freshman in 2021. He’s the first sophomore to win the award since Brett Seney in 2016.
The TMR Awards are presented annually by The Mack Report. The men’s hockey awards have been presented since 2007. The men’s basketball awards were instituted in 2022.
