Seamus Powell named Hockey East Defender of the Month for January
Merrimack sophomore defenseman Seamus Powell has been named the Hockey East Defender of the Month for January.
Powell, a Boston College transfer, had nine points (1g-8a) in nine games during January and finished the month on a six-game point streak. Powell was second among all NCAA defensemen in points for January.
Powell leads Merrimack with 15 points (3g-12a) this season. Powell’s new CHIP stat (similar to WAR in baseball) has Powell ranked as the No. 32 overall player in college hockey this season, and he’s the No. 10 overall defenseman.
