Takeaways: Merrimack's slow start cost them a win
BOSTON — You hear coaches say it all the time.
“We need a 60-minute effort.”
The Warriors were really good for about 50 minutes on Tuesday night against Stonehill at Warrior Ice Arena. However, a sluggish start for the first 10 minutes allowed the Skyhawks to dig the Warriors into a hole that they ultimately never completely dug out of. They lost 4-3 in overtime.
Here are my takeaways:
— The Warriors couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start. According to the official stats, at least, the Warriors didn’t register a shot on goal until after Stonehill scored its second goal and was up 2-0. Merrimack had chances — Vann Yuhas hit a post and Zach Bookman whistled a puck over the crossbar, but nothing officially hit Stonehill goalie Connor Androlewicz until after the Warriors were down 2-0.
Scott Borek seemed unhappy (that’s probably an understatement) with how the Warriors began the game, and I can’t blame him.
