Matt Copponi was named the 2023 TMR Men’s Hockey Most Improved Player, as voted on by readers of The Mack Report.
This is the first TMR Award for Copponi, who just completed his sophomore season. The 19-year-old tied for the team lead with 14 goals and was second with 29 points (14g-15a) in 37 games. Those totals were a 222 percent improvement from his freshman season when he appeared in 25 games and had nine points (3g-6a).
Copponi received 62 percent of the vote. Zachary Borgiel (24 percent) was the runner-up.
Through two seasons, Copponi has appeared in 62 games for the Warriors and has 38 points (17g-21a). He’s projected to go as high as the third round of this summer’s NHL Draft. He was ranked No. 98 among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting in its final rankings.
The TMR Awards are presented annually by The Mack Report. The awards are voted on by TMR readers/subscribers. The men’s hockey awards have been presented since 2007. The men’s basketball awards were instituted in 2022.
