Warrior wrap up Cathedral Classic with a win
Merrimack 66, La Salle 60
Merrimack wrapped up The Cathedral Classic with a 66-60 win over La Salle on Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors were paced by Ernest Shelton (17 points), Kevair Kennedy (16 points), and Tye Dorset (10 points). Merrimack opened on a 14-4 run and weathered a La Salle surge midway through the contest — including a brief Explorer lead late in the first half — before closing things out down the stretch.
Kennedy set the tone defensively, forcing five steals as Merrimack racked up 11 takeaways and turned La Salle over 19 times. KC Ugwuakazi was a dominant presence in the paint, swatting five shots to anchor the interior.
The Warriors now turn their attention to the MAAC schedule, which begins Thursday night at Lawler Arena.
Merrimack has several promotions planned for the conference opener, including a special t-shirt giveaway designed to complement the Warriors’ new powder-blue third jerseys. Additional giveaways and fan events are slated throughout the night. Tickets are available at the box office or online at merrimackathletics.com.
